Happy New Year Brings Happy New Room!

Happy New Year Brings Happy New Room!

Hello 2016!

It’s a New Year. Yay! There’s nothing better than a fresh start and that’s just what 2016 has brought me. Recently, I redesigned my room. Surprise, surprise! Yes, I know, I’m the world’s biggest rearranger of rooms ever, but please, bear with me.

I didn’t add any new furniture to my room, keeping my bed, chair, jewelry table, decor table, and record player stand. Although, I did add a few new “accessories” like a DIY bed canopy. I went to IKEA and found cheap mesh curtains for less than $5 dollars. I tied the two curtains together with a hair tie (I’m so fancy.) and bolted a hook to my ceiling. Et voila!

In addition to my canopy, I added some fairy lights in true Christmas spirit. What I love about them is that they can be used as my room lighting instead of my lackluster over head light.

Fairy lights, pillows, and canopies!

For another room decor DIY, I was inspired by the Urban Outfitters Wall Hanging made from yarn. At a local craft store I found a metal ring and found some very fluffy yarn. I tied the yarn strands to the metal ring and hung the piece of art to the wall.

Personally, I find that jewelry can be one of the hardest things to keep untangled and organized. It seems that for me my necklaces are permanetly tangled. On YouTube, I found a lovely DIY Tree Branch Hanging specifically for jewelry. From a stick I found from a local park, some twine, and metal hanging hooks, I made it.

I also have a table where I have a jewelry box from Crate and Barrel, another DIY sunglasses frame holder, a mannequin for additional necklaces, and a pastry holder where I keep some earrings I recently purchased.  In the corner of my room I keep my Crosley Record Player on a small white table with my records underneath (including my new Adele 25 LP). Of course, I have my Audrey Hepburn on the wall too.

I added a few photos from this year to a side table just for fun.

Around my closet, I added some photos I found on Instagram, Pinterest, and WeHeartIt. I used a paperclip and string to attach them to the wall. I also have little “poofs” that I strung to the wall above my bench, and a light up ‘A’ in true me-fashion.

On my radiator bench I have a mini Christmas tree, a light box, a lantern, and a buddha. Obviously, I’ll remove the Christmas decorations soon and add something new, so stay tuned.

Festivities for the season

So, there you have it. Next week, I’ll be sharing a few tips and tricks for room decor and I’d like to share with you a few things I received from Christmas including books, additional room decor, clothes, accessories, and stationary.

Stay tuned,

Spring Lookbook

Spring Lookbook

This spring is full of bohemian touches: fringes, soft fabrics, flowing shapes, those poncho things and flairs. It’s all the “Coachella” fuss and seventies revival. Flower crowns, overalls, statement necklaces, floppy hats and crop tops. It’s all right I guess for now, but I don’t see it as a permanent trend, TBH. Then again, I did just get a pair of overalls.

Coachella style all the way. What is this? 1974?

Here's a pic from the new Zara spring/summer collection . Says it all when trying to explain that hippie and boho is back.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is everybody is currently obsessing over it all. Meanwhile, I’m contemplating if I like it or not. It’s cool and all, but I guess I’m just not that into it. I realize that I did not exist in the seventies, or the eighties, or the nineties, but I still feel like flared pants, jumpsuits, and high waisted jeans has already been done.

Farrah Fawcett in flared jeans and some kind of button up sweater. (who knows?)

It all makes me wonder, are we going to go back to flapper girl dresses, or whatever chaotic disaster that was going on during the 80’s?

So, with all that in mind, let’s take a look at the best of this spring’s style. Enjoy.

First of all, let me just note that these beautiful outfits are from Mimi Ikonn. Monochrome is definitely one of those classic looks that's timeless. Mimi has a great video up on her channel for a whole monochrome cookbook. Just putting it out there.

Hats, Hats, Hats

Hats, Hats, Hats

Hey, it’s me. And yes, I actually do still exist. It’s been awhile but today’s April 12th post, is all about hats.

I’ve never really been the hat person. I’ve always found that they get caught up with my hair, and their impossible to wear in general. I never have a decent place to set them down and always feel like I can’t see anything and they’re drowning my face. That’s all changed since. As I get more into style and fashion, pretty much meaning searching weheartit.com pinterest.com for hours, and reading Porter magazine , I’m starting to see that actually maybe they are better than I thought.

It all started with a pom-pom hat. I remember I had one when I was little, bright red and cozy with a huge pom-pom on the top, or whatever you want to call it. Last winter, as I saw them more and more, I began to really really really want one. And I did get one: it was the first gift I opened last Christmas. I wore it and wore it until spring came and it was getting a little too warm to wear the warmest hat you could ever imagine.

My second hat, and my last hat for that matter, is a floppy hat. I was on break last February and shopping with my mom, we went into Nordstrom’s Rack “just looking”. I went into the accessories section with my mom and started trying on hats. I found a huge black floppy hat and instantaneously fell in love. We didn’t end up getting it that day but when my dad saw a photo of me wearing it, my mom and I were back at Nordstrom’s Rack and I was praying it would still be there. It was and has become a signature hat.

Here are a few pictures of the best hat looks. Enjoy.

Ladylike, bohemian, urban, whatever you want to call it, it works.
In a classic street style look, this floppy hat gives the whole outfit a signature look.

This just shows in one outfit, why I love pom-pom hat. Need I saw more?
This just shows in one outfit, why I love pom-pom hat. Need I say more?
Again, a classic street style, I love not only the hat, but the coat. I can't wait until I'll be able to wear this kind of look.

Introduction- Accept The Mystery

Introduction- Accept The Mystery

I sit in the back seat of the car watching time go by, slowly and then all at once. Outside it’s dull and the air is cold. As I look out the window, I see unfamiliar faces. I wonder what they’re thinking or doing at that moment. We all have different pathways leading is in different places. Our pathways cross and drift apart.
When I get to school, I get my Social Studies binder and start copying down the lesson. Nobody in class, seems to be listening. They teach us about the Fall of Rome.
When the bell rings, my friend Gabriella taps me on the shoulder.
“Come!” She says, looking excited. She’s been my friend for nearly seven years. She’s always been the energetic type, even at 9:00 in the morning.
“What?” I haven’t gotten much sleep in the last 48 hours and I’m still aching from dance last night. I walk down the hallway to my locker. She follows me.
“I wanna show you something,” she says again, “you can’t tell anyone though. Okay?”
“Yes, umm, okay. . .” I say, hesitant. I can’t thing of anything that Gab would need to show me, let alone keep a secret.
However, I follow her.
She leads me down the hall, to the janitor’s closet. Classic.
“Why are you taking me here? I need to go, I have second period. Show me later. There’s nothing here anyway, Gab.” I murmur.
“No,” she sounds serious and her dark brown eyes look directly into mine, ” forget about class. I need to show you something.” She flings her backpack down on the ground until she finds a key. She inserts the key into the keyhole of the janitor’s closet and motions for me to follow her. I follow her into the closet. There are empty cans and hanging brooms in the wall. It smells horrible. I don’t think anyone has been here for a few months, maybe years. Everything has a thick layer of dust on it.

To be continued…

Remembering Oscar De La Renta

Remembering Oscar De La Renta

Just a few hours ago, the pop-idol Oscar De La Renta passed away at the age of 82. He was a great man as well as designer, designing dresses to sunglasses from the Dominican. The legendary designer was one of the most influential designers in the fashion industry. He dressed First Ladies- Hillary Clinton and Jackie Kennedy. Oscar De La Renta was one of the most talked about names in Hollywood designing dresses for Lea Michele, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Garner, Emma Watson, Oprah Winfrey, Anne Hathaway, Nicki Minaj, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, and Jessica Biel.

The Exhibit- Les carrière de lumières

The Exhibit- Les carrière de lumières

This summer, like every summer, I went to France. I am French and all of my dad’s family lives in Nice, the south of France. I spent ten days at my dad’s aunt and uncle’s and then we heard about an exhibit. An exhibit about lots of artists, Klimt, Makart, Wagner, Hundertwasser, and Schiele. Yay…. A museum… ! The thrill! We had gone to the Chateau de Baux the day before, and loved it. I was excited to see what today’s surprise brought. Turns out the exhibit was in the castle.

We walk into the castle and here loud classical music accompanied by some opera. I felt like I was walking into a dream, full of my favorite artists and the dark castle turned the paintings into the light. Lines projected on the ground turned into drawings, that turned to pictures, that turned to your favorite paintings. A tree trunk would turn into Klimt’s tree of life. Cards flying around turned into a house of cards. Walking around and looking at all the columns with paintings projected on them
was like walking into a painting. And looking down was like looking at your favorite painting right on your feet.

The exhibit is called “Les carrieres de lumieres” it is the most amazing exhibit in a roman made castle that takes to an indescribable land. If you go to Probince go to the castle, go shopping at all the little shops around it, and then go to this exhibit, les carrières des lumières! Les carrières des lumières literally blew my mind away.

Here are some pictures so you can picture the exhibit, Les carrières des lumières, better.

Back-To-Fun

Back-To-Fun

Dear Students,

Most of us are already back to school! I hope you all are having good first days back and also had a long summer full of fun! Right now, it seems like there are decades before school ends but it will go quickly and before you know it, you’ll be back on the beach.

One of the great things about a new school year is you get to start fresh with a clean slate. You probably got new clothes, new school supplies, new teachers, maybe even a new school! Whether you want to do better academically or just want to get through the year you have a clean slate now, so make the most of it.

One of the most important things about school is having fun. Usually, we think of after school as being fun and the weekends and not school but it doesn’t HAVE to be like that. It’s possible that school can be awesome, and fun, and epic. If you don’t have fun in school you won’t be motivated. I don’t necessarily mean having fun during tests and exams but even in class try to have as much fun as possible. Do creative projects and posters for long term projects. Read something you’re passionate about for book reports. Try and beat your friend in a race in PE. Give yourself goals and expectations for yourself so that when you reach them, you’re happy.

Seriously, if you don’t have fun and do things that interest you, you might as well not go to school. Maybe you don’t like math, and that’s fine, but still, look on the bright side and stay positive. Even if you don’t like math, you can still have fun!

Happy Back-To-School!
Have fun,

Miss Tweenster

When You Listen To Music

When You Listen To Music

The best songs are not the ones that you’re listening for, but the ones that you don’t hear coming.

If you’re listening to a pop song there are about three stages.

The first stage is not when you notice it’s playing and not when you listen to the lyrics.

The second stage is when you notice and start to like it. In just a couple plays you know most of the lyrics, the rhythms, the ups and the downs. When it plays on the radio you turn it up. When you see it’s playing, you mention that you love this song and then you start your solo.

The third stage is pretty much the death. You’ve listening to this darn song like 700 times and it sucks. I mean how many times can you listen to Radioactive before you want to smash your radio! Maybe 46 at most.

But I’m only talking about pop music that comes and goes (except the ones the radio dj’s still seem to like for like ever).

But…

Occasionally, you’ll listen to a song but never get tired of it. You could listen to it a million times and still love it even more than the last time you heard it.

This is what I love about music. There are like 35 billion songs out there and they are all…music. Music can be so many different things. I’m not just talking about genres but about the feeling you get when you listen to it. So out all these 35 billion songs maybe 1 out of 100 really sticks with you, probably less.

You don’t get 35 million favorite songs in life so appreciate that moment when you can feel your whole body singing along to the beat.

Happy Favorite Song!

It’s Official!

It’s Official!

I’m very excited to announce my One Year Anniversary of MT! Applause and shouts please!

It’s been really great to have a blog where I can share with you photography, fashion, movies, books, and more!

With a very own Instagram, with a specific theme, and Pinterest with cute pics I’m so glad I can share with you my fashion and feature other peoples work on my Instagram (misstweenster)!

In just one year, I’ve almost had 2,000 hits and over 100 followers including Instagram, Blog, and Pinterest.

Now that I look back on this year I’ve frown a lot and so has my blog! I’m so proud to present my very own YouTube account!

Here’s my first video!

Put Away Your Shorts and T-Shirts and Get Out Your Brand New Hunters!

Put Away Your Shorts and T-Shirts and Get Out Your Brand New Hunters!

It’s almost fall! Yes, I am excited for school. And yes, I’m dreading it! But let’s not forget the good things too about it.

Let’s start with shoes: Hunter boots.
IMG_2147.PNG IMG_2146.PNG

( photos via http://maeamor.com)

I personally love hunter boots. They are sturdy, strong, and fashionable. Last year, I didn’t even need any boots beside my Converse, and red Hunters! They can go with anything especially if you chose a color like black or even red! Of course, if you’re in California you probably won’t be needing rain boots, but they can be worn just as a fashion statement! If you live In New Jersey or New York you probably will need these in a practicable sense!

So, go to Nordstrom’s or online and break out your new boots!

#misstweensterfeatured

Hello all!
I’ve been thinking lately about how to create a more successful social media network. Basically, how to be more successful at getting my blog out there and noticed. I realized that the reason why my Instagram account was not successful at all was because it had no theme. I thought about a theme and nothing came to mind. For weeks I couldn’t think of a good theme that could have a larger amount of audience but at the same time a more specific theme.

Finally, I’ve come up with something.

#misstweensterfeatured

I truly believe in passion and hobbies. Obviously I, personally, am not interested in everything. I dance, play the piano, play sports, speak French, love to write and take photos, cook, and love fashion, and some other things. That doesn’t mean to say I like everything though. Bien sûre. But I honestly think that if you’re into something, you should be doing it. If you love to cook. Get in the kitchen. If you love sports. Get outside and start scoring. If you love music. Embrace it.

This is my theme.

There are 150 million users on Instagram or some staggering amount. Each person has there own interests, passions, hobbies, inspirations. I want them to have a chance to feel special. I want them to feel like there talented. Because they are. We all are. You are. Yes, you.

From now on I’ll feature any talent on my page. Sports, art, photography, blogs, fashion, interior design, cooking, etc.

If you want your hobby to be #misstweensterfeatured just tag me @misstweenster. I will also feature posts I find as well.

Now, I want you to go do what you love to do.

I’m proud to announce that misstweenster’s one year anniversary is so close! September 03! We will be celebrating with introducing our newest writer Jessie Moore and potentially another writer! I’ve been working on editing a 30 second short video on iMovie. Although it’s tedious I think it will all pay off!

I love everything about this: photography, closes, accents, everything! Of course, don’t we all wish we had a closet that looks like this!

Next bedroom: closet.

Of course besides the masses of clothes, shoes, and bags it’s not expensive or difficult to make your bedroom have similar fashionable touches like Rach Parcells room designed by Alice Lane.

Stacking books with an accessories is not difficult or costly. Comment below if you have any questions on how to style similar to this.

Rather Be- Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne

Rather Be- Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne

Another at the moment song…

“When I’m with you there’s no place I’d rather be…n-n-no no place I’d rather be…”

I turned on Spotify on my iPhone and tried to skip the least amount of songs as possible.

A song I wasn’t familiar with, Rather Be, was playing so I kept listening.

We’re a thousand miles from comfort,
We have traveled land and sea
But as long as you are with me,
There’s no place I rather be

I would wait forever,
Exulted in the scene
As long as I am with you,
My heart continues to beat

With every step we take,
Kyoto to The Bay
Strolling so casually
We’re different and the same,
Gave you another name
Switch up the batteries

If you gave me a chance I would take it
It’s a shot in the dark but I’ll make it
Know with all of your heart, you can’t shame me
When I am with you, there’s no place I rather be

No, no, no, no place I rather be
No, no, no, no place I rather be
No, no, no, no place I rather be, oh oh

We staked out on a mission
To find our inner peace
Make it everlasting
So nothing’s incomplete

It’s easy being with you,
Sacred simplicity
As long as we’re together,
There’s no place I’d rather be

With every step we take,
Kyoto to The Bay
Strolling so casually
We’re different and the same,
Gave you another name
Switch up the batteries

If you gave me a chance I would take it
It’s a shot in the dark but I’ll make it
Know with all of your heart, you can’t shame me
When I am with you, there’s no place I rather be

No, no, no, no place I rather be
No, no, no, no place I rather be
No, no, no, no place I rather be
When I am with you, there’s no place I rather be
Be, oh

Be, be, be, be, be, be, be, be, be

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
If you gave me a chance I would take it
It’s a shot in the dark but I’ll make it
Know with all of your heart, you can’t shame me
When I am with you, there’s no place I rather be

No, no, no, no place I rather be
No, no, no, no place I rather be
No, no, no, no place I rather be
When I am with you, there’s no place I rather be

Synonyms of Rather Be: astonishing, astounding, blindsiding, dumbfounding, eye-opening, flabbergasting, jarring, jaw-dropping, jolting, shocking, startling, stunning, stupefying. Amazing.

The music video is a whole new story: ○□◇△.

Through out the music video four shapes occur. On the sheets, lanterns, money, eyes, etc. It’s pretty creepy actually and is definitely a must see because if it’s oddness.

Must Have Editing Apps

Must Have Editing Apps

Have you ever tried found yourself stuck in the App Store debating over prices and reviews for a photo app?
I have, and I found out that it’s actually very simple to get great photo apps for free!

Add text to a photo with Phonto! It’s really simple, with a wide variety of fonts, colors and you can adjust the shadows or widen the words. This app is really great and it’s free!

For collage I suggest Pic Collage or Vidstitch. Pic Collage is a free app that has fun backgrounds and cute stickers. It allows you to put many photos on one collage and arrange them however you want. Vidstitch is free but it only allows you to put four photos or less (unless you are ok with paying extra). The cool feature is that you can insert photos and videos inside your collage. Definitely a must!

Always been wanting to make a photo with some cool geometric patterns or shapes? PhotoCandy is a possible solution! It’s always fun to make edits on this app (it’s free too!).

For adding color to a photo I don’t really recommend any because they work well, I personally use Color Splash but all apps are fine :)

A Little Advice From Jessie on School

A Little Advice From Jessie on School

The sun is still shining, but summer is almost done. The school bell will be ringing again soon. Always, no matter what grade you’re going into, keep these things I’m mind:

• Be positive,
• Stay kind,
• Be organized,
• Don’t stress,
• Keep your head held high,
• And work efficiently!

This is what I think is essential for a great school year! Of course, many different people have different opinions. Comment down below on any school year tips you have!

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

With this story, it doesn’t matter if you read the book first or if the movie was better.
Because this story, in any shape or form is a masterpiece, whether it’s on paper or on screen.
Welcome to The Fault in our Stars.
There is no describing this story because it is so many different things; a story of love, bravery, trust, courage, friendship, and the list goes on…
But as you read this novel, you realize that something is haunting you. Something similar to a bad nightmare, but a million times worse. Cancer.
As a young student I always wondered why the teachers told us that in a story there always had to be a problem. And that in the end it would be solved.
Well, this problem can’t be solved.
As I said earlier:
Welcome to The Fault in our Stars.
Enjoy your stay.

Ever Had a Pile of Books You’ve Started but Haven’t Finished?

Ever Had a Pile of Books You’ve Started but Haven’t Finished?

I’ve started Insurgent, Mockingjay, This Star Won’t Go Out, Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children and many more books but haven’t actually finished them. Right now, I’m reading The Book Thief but once I’m done what am I going to read?

So how so you solve this problem?

On my top shelf of my bookcase I’ve put all the books that I haven’t read or finished. Depending on my reading mood, I’ve organized them from the book I most want to read/ finish all the way to the books I don’t have much interest in them.

So it looks like I’ll be finishing Insurgent after The Book Thief!

Happy reading!

Fashion Spotlight

Fashion Spotlight

image

This weeks fashion spotlight is all about skinny pants. We’ve got the bright yellows from Zara, the Gap , the spotty ones from Nordstrom and various other pants from these same stores. What’s great about having summery pants is you can be wearing white shorts in the daytime and then in the evening soup into white pants without changing nothing else. I’ve gotten lots of use out of this decision of pants and can’t wait to show you them in outfits.

Happy Famous Fashion Friday!

Fashion Spotlight

If you haven’t already noticed I’ve been posting a lot more lately. Partly it’s because I have more time in the summer and once you start posting it gets contagious.

I have a brilliant idea called the fashion spotlight. Each week or so I will spotlight certain items in my closet!

Here’s my first:

The spotty blue coat is from the Gap, with the yellow scarf from Zara. The tan coat is from Ralph Lauren along with a scarf from France. Below the blue fade shirt is from the Gap, the bright orange one from Zara, and the seaside turquoise shirt from Zara.

On the other door is the Gap, Zara, and more Gap!

How To Organize Your Closet

How To Organize Your Closet

How do you keep a closet organized? It’s a simple question but can have a complicated answer. So that your closet doesn’t look like the picture above and more like the picture below, here are a few tips.

1. Donate anything that is broken and that you are no longer willing to repair, anything that you would no longer buy, haven’t worn this season, and too small. It’s always hard to get to rid of some things because you feel as if some day you’ll wear it again but chances are you won’t. The more clothes that you can donate or give away to charity the more new clothes you can get and the fresher and newer your clothes will feel, seriously. I donated to Goodwill about 2 bags of clothes and now my closet feels much bigger and definitely much newer.

2. Don’t try to cram in too many clothes or shoes in one space. The more space the better. Use more space for clothes instead of less. The more space the better even you don’t have masses of clothes. Also make sure to keep just to clothes in your drawers, hanging space, and shelves. If you add other items they will tend to get in the way.

3. Don’t try to over complicate your organization. If you try to organize by color, and brand you’ll never keep it neat. Organize by clothing type not style, brand, color, pattern, and size. For example, I keep all of my shirts, t shirts, and tanks in one place.

4. Anything that needs to be accessible should be accessible. Don’t put your summer clothes on the shelf if it’s summer!

The Bits And Bobs of Lorde- Guest Writer

The Bits And Bobs of Lorde- Guest Writer

Where should I start? I guess most people would start at the beginning, but for some reason, I’m not going too. I’m going to start here:

The click of a computer key, the enter key. It was the day my mom had bought tickets to the Lorde concert. After several weeks of anxious waiting, the day came. My mom and I brought my two best friends. We drove to where the concert was held and after many photos and fuss, we found our seats. To us, it seemed as if we waited forever for the lights to dim. After the introductory group played a few songs, although it seemed like many more, we were ready for Lorde. Or, I guess, we thought we were.

Let’s just say, we were not expecting this.
The lighting was mesmerizing. The lights would flash on and off according to the beat in different colors.
A giant vintage frame held a giant screen. And on the screen several clips were projected during certain songs; but mostly on the screen was a live camera of Lorde.
We had so much fun at the concert! I remember it so clearly, as if it was yesterday.

Now let’s talk about Lorde herself:

Her debut single “Royals” was released August 2013 and was immediately a worldwide hit. It was nominated “Best Song of the Year” by several grand media-outlets and got many different awards, one of them being a Grammy! Just one month later, in September 2013, her album Pure Heroine was released. Many, including me, fell in love with her and her music. She continues to inspire everyone with her music.

Lorde is also a giant fashion icon for teens all around the world.
She has appeared on numerous magazine covers, including Vogue, Clash, and Fashion. Her style is quite unique yet very beautiful.
